QRYTEXT:Looking for information on the town of Warren. My great-grandfather George K. Martin (b. 30 Jan 1890, Sunflower Co., MS)and his wife Lillian Lyons (b. 8 Sep 1889, Van Buren, Crawford Co., AR) moved to Oklahoma around 1814-15 with son G.G. (b. 1914, Hot Springs, Garland Co., AR). They had a daughter Francis (b. 1915), son J. Edward (b. 1917), and son Jerome (b. 1917) in Oklahoma. Father-in-law Max Lyons and possibly even monther-in-law Fannie Kempner Lyons may have been with them. Family left for Ft. Worth sometime after that. Family folklore says George K. Martin was mayor or some elected official for the twon of Warren. Would love confirmtion of this or anything that would help. Also was recently told that his nickname was "Doc". We are uncertain why. he may have owned a livery stable at one time but he ended up in the oil business (1920 census). Would be interested in any history of the town f Warren, including schools, government, and land. Was there any state census taken? Also, I am curious about the town of Mangum nearby. Any history of who and how the town would be appreciated. Does anyone know if there is a connection to Mangumas or Martins in Mississippi (specifically in Rankin County)?

He married Lucille Bailey, 3 Feb 1930 at Altus, and they had one daughter, Donna Rae (born ca 1931, Altus).Donna Rae was married to Martin Burch and lived in Montrose, CA in 1956. Dewey was a member of the First Baptist Church, Altus, for many years and served as secretary. He owned the McDowell Hardware Store. He died 17 Aug 1956 and is buried in Restlawn Memorial Park. QRYTEXT:The following is a summary of Lear Vesta STRICKLAN.  Lear was born in Ar. Oct. 13, 1882.  Her father was a John STRICKLAND, who had homestead land in Ar. in Garland and/or Montgomery counties.  I do not know her mother's name.   Lear married a William Ace Scott of Wiggs, Garland County on Aug 30, 1903.  Lear also listed Wiggs as her address.  Lear &amp; Ace had three living children: William Earl SCOTT, born Aug 16, 1906, Ethel Leona SCOTT, born July 8, 1904 and Janie Lily Bell Scott born May 13, 1909.  All three kids were born in Ar. Lear's husband, Ace, died May 22, 1925 in a sawmill accident on his homestead.  Ace's mom was Becky Scott, no maiden name. Ace' dad was a John Scott.  I have no futher information on Ace's parents. Lear had a broher named Early STRICKLAND,  a brother named George STRICKLAND, a sister named Roxy STRICKLAND, and a sister named Lizzy or Elizabeth STRICKLAND.  According to family stories, George and Early STRICKLAND  moved to Oklahoma.  Unknown dates.  At some thime after Ace's death, Lear moved to Ok.   I can remember my grandmother, Janie Lily Bell taking me to lear's grave when I was a small child and telling me that this is where her mom is buried.  Lear is buried at Foster, Ok. in an unmarked grave.  Lear died on Feb. 18, 1929. Janie Lily Bell STRICKLAND married a Charles Forrest PITTMAN. On their marriage license both listed Lindsey as their address. I have no idea where George and Early went in Okla. possibly in Altus, or Blair, Ok.  I have no contact with the STRICKLAND, SCOTT, OR PITTMAN side of the family other than William, Leona, and Janie Bell SCOTT'S side. My mother, Wilma Joyce PITTMAN, and one of her brothers were born in Chickasha, Ok.  I also have reason to believe that Becky SCOTT lived in Chickasaw.

QRYTEXT:Looking for any and all information on John WILSON and Minnie Wilson of Altus, Oklahoma.  Their children were Ennis C. Wilson and Mamie P. Wilson.  Mamie born after 1880 died in Altus 1970 ? Ennis also born after 1880, died in Fl. in the 1960's.  Ennis had two children, Olive Jane, my mother and Bobbie, we always called her Aunt Bobbie.  I know that Mamie and here parents are buried in the Altus cemetary.  Any and all help in research of this line will be apreciated.  These Wilsons had a farm around Martha and Blair.  They were also related to the Kirk line of Blair and Martha.

CalvinAEs first wife in was in VA, Susan Martha BOWMAN (1866-1946). They were divorced and he moved to Texas somewhere around 1885-1895. He owned property in both Altus, OK and Paris, TX. His second wife was Ms. Willie CARNELL, some sources say her last name was WRIGHT. It is possible one of the names is a maiden name and the other a married name. Willie and Calvin had one son who lived to adulthood, although I do not know his name. QRYTEXT:I would like to find out about the Crooked Oak School. While researching my family tree, in my father's keepsakes I came across an "EIGHTH GRADE COMMENCEMENT" program held in the "CROOKED OAK SCHOOL AUDITORIUM" on May 20th, 1938 at 8 p.m. The evening's speaker was a Dr. O.E. Hatcher, superintendent of Schools, Duke, Okla. It has the program for the evening and lists all of the students graduating from the 8th grade. There are a total of 57 names. In addition to the students first and last names, many have their middle initial or full middle name included. My father was one of the students. In the program, there is a Rev. A.D. Grim listed as giving the invocation. My father's step-father was a Virgil Grim, who was also a minister. I don't know if there is a connection with the two names. I am not researching the Grim family tree, so do not have anything to contribute there. I have scanned the Commencement Program onto a disk and would offer it to any sight t! hat would like to post it or to any individual who would like to have it for their records.

QRYTEXT:J. W. SHIELDS born ca 1860 in Mississippi (probably Panola County). He married 2ndly Martha Ann "Mattie" (DEATON)(WYNNE)(COX). He had known "Mattie" when they were young and after his 1st wife of 30 years died, he searched and found "Mattie." They returned to Winona, MS and were married around 1914 in the Scotland Church there. They then returned to his home in ALTUS, JACKSON COUNTY, MS. where he was an Alderman and a "big oil man," and were welcomed home by a brass band. He died around 1928, we think in ALTUS, OK. I am interested in any records concerning him and his life in ALTUS. Advice as to how to find information on him will be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much.
